Boots
I did a little more research on this whole double-boot thing. I’m not so sure how easy it would actually be to do the double-boot with an existing XP install. One of the main problems I’m running into is a high level of fragmentation on my drive and the fact that I have a lot of bloatware installed. I’ve been going through and removing stuff, but I sort of think that it would just be easier if I went and wiped the drive and started from scratch.
If I remember correctly, Jeff has an XP install CD. If that is the case, then I can use that to reinstall XP on my computer. I’d use the XP installer to wipe the drive and then make two new partitions on it. Install XP to one partition and then install Linux to the other. It would be pretty simple, I think.
As to which Linux, I’m a little conflicted. Ubuntu has it’s benefits, but then so does openSUSE. I actually like SUSE a lot more than Ubuntu at the moment because SUSE has a more powerful search function and I like its overall look a lot more. Ubuntu is much the same in many respects, but lacks SUSE’s nice graphics and the search function.
I did a little bit of research into compatibility and found that someone had tested my Dell Inspiron 9300 configuration and came through all clear. One thing I’m worried about is my wireless card, as I’m not sure if it’s listed in the list of compatible cards. The list has a lot of Intel PRO/Wireless cards. I have an Intel PROset/Wireless card, however. So I’m not sure. I’m relatively confident that it will work, but I want to be certain.
Diamond is going well. I’ve found some interesting new team members and I’m working on an all-star lineup. Leveling is pretty easy, to be honest. Sometimes I worry that I’m over-leveling. I suppose there’s no such thing, really. Prinplup remains leader of the pack by a large margin. That may have been spurred by the over-abundance of Geodudes and Ponytas in the areas lately. I’ve been trying to keep the team relatively even, level-wise.
Other news, the Lemon Sun concert went well enough. The crowd was smallish, but that was expected. Oh well. I liked their music a lot and bought their EP when the concert was over. It’s very nice.
“Simple question, kid.” “Where have all the martyrs gone?”

Ubuntu can actually uses the same search engine as Suse. Suse’s search engine is called beagle. In Ubuntu this can easily be installed from the repositories using Synaptic (look in system/administration). I prefer a different search engine called Tracker. It uses far less resources on my laptop (50-80MBs for Beagle as compared to 3-5MBs for Tracker).
