What A Wave Must Be

The dusk kept dropping, dropping still

Random snippings, the third

More shorts. I write these more than I write actual stuff…

It must be so hard to be a nurse
To put on a smile everyday for the sick and dying
To get them to laugh and smile too
Even though that’s just plain-faced lying.

I didn’t mean to fall in love
But you tripped me up
And busted my chin as I fell for you.

I didn’t mean to break your heart
But my words are a sucker punch
And this love has a glass jaw.

I waste my days looking through
The junk in the lost and found.
I feel like I’ve already lost you
Though you’re something I never even had.

I know your face and voice,
I know your curves and lines.
Without looking I could
Reproduce you without a flaw.

I loved you in my dreams
Before I ever saw you on the street.
And even now that we’re together, waking,
Sometimes, I prefer closing my eyes to looking at you.
